M.S.L.R.P. Marasinghe has been appointed as the Director General of the Department of Wildlife Conservation with effect from January 1, the Ministry of Environment announced.
The appointment was made by Minister of Environment Dr. Dhammika Patabedee.
Mr. Marasinghe joined the Department of Wildlife Conservation in September 1998 as an Assistant Director of Scientific Services and has over two decades of experience in wildlife administration. During his career, he has held several key positions, including Deputy Director, Director (Operations) and Additional Director (Technology).
He is a graduate in Agriculture from the University of Peradeniya and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from the same university. His academic qualifications also include a Master of Science in Forestry and Environmental Management from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, a Bachelor of Information Technology degree from the University of Colombo and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Open University.
Mr. Marasinghe has also undergone extensive professional training in wildlife management, including a Postgraduate Diploma from the Wildlife Institute of India. He becomes the 35th head of the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
