Four youths have been arrested for allegedly stealing motorbikes, including two high-powered motorcycles that were being held as case material, during flooding at the Kandy court complex, police said.

According to the Kandy Police, the theft occurred on November 27, 2025, when the court premises were flooded following the opening of the Kotmale Reservoir sluice gates.

Police said the suspects had stolen two high-powered motorbikes with 1,000cc and 600cc engines from the rear section of the court complex, where the vehicles were kept as evidence in ongoing court cases.

The arrests were made following an investigation launched based on a complaint lodged by the Kandy Court Registrar regarding the disappearance of the motorcycles.

The suspects were arrested in the Kandy, Kiribathkumbura, Getembe and Mawanella areas. Investigations are ongoing.
