The Department of Meteorology has warned that showery conditions are expected to increase over the next 36 hours in several parts of the country, particularly in Eastern, Northern, and Uva provinces, due to a developing low-level atmospheric disturbance east of Sri Lanka.
Rainfall is likely at times in Eastern, Central, North-Central, and Uva provinces, with fairly heavy falls above 50 mm predicted in parts of Central and Uva provinces, as well as in Batticaloa and Ampara districts. Northern Province is also expected to receive several spells of showers.
A few showers or thundershowers may occur in other areas after 2.00 p.m., with occasional rain in coastal areas of the North-Western and Western provinces. Misty conditions are also likely in some parts of Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts during the early morning hours.
The Meteorology Department has advised the public to take precautions to reduce risks from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
