The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) has seized illegal narcotics valued at over Rs. 370 million and arrested 71 suspects during anti-drug operations carried out in 2025, with the support of multiple law enforcement agencies.
These operations were conducted in close coordination with the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police, Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), State Intelligence Service (SIS), and the Police Special Task Force (STF), through continuous intelligence sharing and joint action.
As a result of these efforts, authorities seized large quantities of illegal substances, including more than 5 kilograms of ICE (crystal methamphetamine), over 710 kilograms of Kerala cannabis, more than 205 kilograms of locally grown cannabis, over 2 kilograms of hashish, 970 pregabalin capsules, 5,054 Madana Modaka pills, 2,933 foreign-manufactured cigarettes, and over 9,800 kilograms of Kendu leaves.
In addition, the Coast Guard intercepted 60,794 packets and bottles of agricultural chemicals that were being illegally smuggled into the country via sea routes.
During the operations, 19 local fishing boats used for smuggling activities were taken into custody. All 71 suspects arrested in connection with these offenses have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
