Hospitals nationwide have been instructed to submit reports on any complications experienced by patients after receiving the Ondesterone Injection, following concerns that the vaccine may contain bacterial toxins.
The Health Ministry issued the directive yesterday (30), urging hospitals to provide details on symptoms, their severity, timing, and any tests conducted on the vaccine within hospital premises. The move comes nearly two weeks after initial reports raised alarms about the safety of the vaccine, which was imported from India during the current government’s tenure.
The Medicines Regulatory Authority had earlier confirmed that preliminary tests at Kandy National Hospital detected bacterial toxins in the vaccine. However, the full results from the Authority’s Quality Control Laboratory are still pending, according to medical specialists Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa and Mr. Ravi Kumudesh.
Authorities highlighted that timely reporting by hospitals is critical to protect patients and guide the ongoing investigation.
