A Presidential Commission has been appointed to investigate and report on alleged corruption and irregularities at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC).

The Commission comprises former High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe, Accountant E. R. M. S. H. Ekanayake, and former Senior Superintendent of Police D. S. Wickramasinghe.

The appointment was announced through an extraordinary gazette notification issued under the signature of the Secretary to the President.

According to the gazette, the Commission has been mandated to investigate allegations of corruption, fraud, criminal breach of trust, and criminal misappropriation of property at the Colombo Municipal Council during the period from 2010 to 2025.

The Commission will also examine irregularities related to the rental or leasing of movable and immovable property, misuse of state resources and privileges, illegal recruitment and appointments, approval of unlawful plans, and other related matters.
