The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has initiated legal action against a company that marketed the hair care product Hair Miracle (250g) through online platforms, citing misleading information provided to consumers.

According to the CAA, investigations revealed that the product was sold without obtaining approval from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), although the label falsely claimed that NMRA approval had been granted. In addition, the product packaging did not display the manufacturer’s address or contact number, in violation of existing regulations.

The inquiry further found that the product was mainly promoted and sold online. Legal action was filed against the company that marketed the product from Castle Street, Colombo 08, as well as the manufacturer based in Kirikiththa, Weliweriya.

Both companies pleaded guilty before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court on December 23, 2025. The court imposed a fine of Rs. 40,000 on each company and ordered them to remove the false claim of NMRA approval, correct the product labeling, and report back to court on January 20, 2026.

The Consumer Affairs Authority advised consumers to remain vigilant when purchasing products online and to carefully check label details, verify approval claims, and ensure that manufacturer information is clearly stated.
