Sri Lanka has the potential to become more resilient and grow into a US$ 300 billion economy by 2030, despite severe challenges such as Cyclone Ditwah, Secretary to the Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, Ms. Thilaka Jayasundara, said today (29).

Addressing a ceremony in Colombo, she said the recent cyclone had a significant impact on the economy, with around 550 exporters directly affected. However, she expressed confidence that Sri Lanka would recover swiftly and still achieve this year’s export target of US$ 18 billion.

Ms. Jayasundara noted that the necessary groundwork has already been laid to expand the economy from its current size of US$ 98.94 billion to US$ 300 billion by the end of the decade. She stressed that improving productivity across all sectors is the only sustainable way to strengthen the economy and improve Sri Lanka’s performance on global indicators.

She added that creating a strong productivity culture nationwide is essential for long-term economic growth and resilience, particularly in the face of climate-related disasters.
