Sri Lanka has launched its first Certified Productivity Specialist (CPS) certification programme after the National Productivity Secretariat was accredited as a Certification Body by the Asian Productivity Organization (APO).
The certification ceremony, held in Colombo yesterday (29), saw the Certification Institute of the National Productivity Secretariat award certificates to nine Certified Productivity Specialists and 34 Certified Productivity Professionals for 2025. The programme is aimed at strengthening productivity consulting and enhancing national productivity levels.
With this initiative, Sri Lanka has become the 12th country among the 21 APO member nations to offer the internationally recognised APO Certified Productivity Specialist certification. Countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Bangladesh are already implementing the programme.
The National Productivity Secretariat, Sri Lanka’s apex government institution responsible for productivity promotion, functions as the country’s representative body to the APO and plays a key role in advancing productivity-related policy, training and research.
The event was attended by senior officials including Director General (Planning) Mangala Gunaratne, Director General (Engineering) D.P.N. Wijesiri, Director General of the National Productivity Secretariat Suranga Gunaratne, Director Niranja Jayakody, along with public and private sector representatives.
