The Anuradhapura Hospital has launched a series of special health examinations targeting women employed at massage centers (spas) in the Anuradhapura area.
Dr. Hema Weerakoon, a medical officer at the hospital, said the primary goal of the program is to identify individuals infected with HIV. In addition, screenings will cover other sexually transmitted infections, including syphilis. Dr. Weerakoon clarified that the program is primarily a screening initiative, with genital examinations conducted only when necessary.
She stressed that regulating spa centers is a key responsibility of the relevant authorities and that the health check program aims to monitor employee health and control the spread of diseases. These examinations will be carried out alongside ongoing efforts to regulate the institutions.
