Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has called on all communities to unite in solidarity and compassion as Christians in Sri Lanka and around the world celebrate Christmas amid challenging circumstances.
In her Christmas message, the Prime Minister noted that while December traditionally arrives with joy and celebration for Christian devotees, this year’s festivities come against the backdrop of sorrow and hardship caused by a recent natural disaster that has affected thousands across the country.
She emphasized that the true spirit of Christmas, rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, has been reflected in the way people have come together to support those impacted by the disaster. According to the Prime Minister, the collective response has demonstrated values of love, compassion, and unity, transcending differences within society.
Dr. Amarasuriya stressed that the country now stands at a critical moment where all communities must work together with a shared sense of responsibility to rebuild and move forward. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working towards the creation of a “new country” that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people.
Concluding her message, the Prime Minister urged citizens to renew their commitment to unity, responsibility, and compassion in the pursuit of a better future, and extended her warm Christmas greetings to Christian devotees in Sri Lanka and across the world.
