The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has decided to issue temporary driving licenses at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for Sri Lankan citizens and dual citizens returning from overseas.
Accordingly, eligible individuals will be able to obtain temporary driving licenses based on valid foreign driving licenses currently in their possession. This move is aimed at facilitating returning Sri Lankans who require immediate authorization to drive upon arrival in the country.
The Department further stated that a dedicated counter has already been set up at the airport to issue temporary driving licenses to foreign tourists, based on their respective overseas driving licenses. The same facility will now be extended to returning Sri Lankan citizens and dual nationals.
The initiative is expected to ease travel and transportation needs for arrivals and streamline licensing services at the airport.
