The Education Ministry has revised the end dates of the 2025 academic year for government and government-approved private schools, including Pirivenas.
According to the announcement, the academic year will conclude on 22nd December 2025 for Sinhala and Tamil schools, and on 26th December 2025 for Muslim schools. Consequently, school holidays will be observed from 23rd December 2025 to 4th January 2026 for Sinhala and Tamil schools, and from 27th December 2025 to 4th January 2026 for Muslim schools.
The first phase of the first term of the 2026 academic year will begin on 5th January 2026, in line with the circular issued on 9th December 2025. The second and third terms of 2026 will follow the schedule outlined in Circular No. 30/2025 dated 11th September 2025.
The Ministry also clarified that school examination dates announced by the Department of Examinations will remain unchanged.
