Air quality in Sri Lanka has worsened in recent days, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) rising to between 150 and 200, particularly in the Northern, North Central, North Western, and Western Provinces, the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) said.
CEA Media Spokesman Dr. Ajith Gunawardena attributed the decline to transboundary air movement and the Northeast Monsoon, noting that similar conditions have occurred during this period in previous years.
The CEA continues to closely monitor air quality nationwide. Dr. Gunawardena warned that individuals sensitive to air pollution may experience health effects and advised seeking medical attention if necessary. He added that the situation is expected to improve after today.
