The Irrigation Department has issued a flood warning for the Mahaweli River Basin following heavy rainfall since last night in several upstream areas of the river.
According to the Department, rising water levels in the Mahaweli River have created a potentially hazardous situation, prompting authorities to alert residents living along the riverbanks.

Specific high-risk locations identified:
Gal Ella area along the Manampitiya–Polonnaruwa road
Access road to Somawathiya Raja Maha Viharaya and surrounding areas
