Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Anura Karunathilake, visited the Katunayake Airport premises to meet with the management of the Airport and Aviation Services Limited (AASL) and review the company’s year-end progress.
The meeting also recognized the staff’s performance during recent disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditva and the resulting floods.
The 2025 progress review meeting was held at the Board of Directors Auditorium of the Katunayake Airport and Aviation Company, under the patronage of Minister Karunathilake. Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku and Secretary to the Ministry, W.W.S. Mangala, participated, along with AASL Chairman Air Chief Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, Airport Chief Manager Aruna Rajapaksa, Director Primal de Silva, and senior officials from the Ministry.
Minister Karunathilake praised the company’s management and staff for their dedicated service in ensuring passenger needs were met during the emergency. He also encouraged officials to actively participate in the nation’s post-disaster recovery and rebuilding efforts.
The review highlighted that AASL achieved a profit of Rs. 19,060 million in 2025, an increase of Rs. 5,021 million compared to 2024. The meeting also discussed ongoing short-term development activities at the airport terminal and proposed plans for 2026 aimed at enhancing passenger facilities and operational efficiency.
Following the meeting, the Minister and officials conducted an observation tour of the airport terminal, inspecting areas where development works are underway. Minister Karunathilake assured that necessary facilities and resources would be provided promptly to complete these projects efficiently.
