The Sri Lanka Navy has completed specialized diving and technical operations to restore key bridges in Peradeniya that were blocked by debris following severe flooding caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The cyclone led to a significant rise in the Mahaweli River, carrying large amounts of debris, including logs and tree remnants, which obstructed vital bridges. These blockages not only disrupted the natural flow of water but also posed a threat to critical infrastructure.
In addition to the bridge restoration, the Navy continues to conduct wide-ranging Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations across the island, assisting communities affected by the floods and ensuring safety in vulnerable areas.
