Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said that an investigation is ongoing, under the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to determine whether police officers neglected their duties in the accident involving National People's Party (JPP) Gampaha District Parliamentarian Ashoka Ranwala.

Speaking at a cabinet decision-informing media briefing today, Minister Jayatissa said the investigation was initiated following allegations from certain parties suggesting lapses in police duty at the time of the accident.

“The IGP has ordered an inquiry to determine whether the police officers were negligent in their duties. All related reports will be submitted to the court, which will then reach a verdict on the matter,” he said.

Minister Jayatissa further added that the findings of the investigation are expected to provide clarity and accountability regarding the incident.
