The draft National Electricity Policy, formulated under the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 14 of 2025, was presented to Minister of Energy Eng. Kumara Jayakody by the specially appointed committee.
The policy, designed as a key component of a broader national energy strategy, aims to address both current and future challenges in the country’s energy sector.
The committee, appointed by the Cabinet on the Minister’s recommendation, includes prominent experts who contributed to the policy’s development:
- Professor Mohan Munasinghe
- Professor Arulampalam Attupudaraja
- Professor Wijendra Bandara
- Dr. M.M. Gunathilaka
- Eng. W.J.L. Shavindranath Fernando
- President's Counsel Milinda Gunathilaka
Following its presentation, the draft policy will be opened for public consultation before being formally adopted as the National Electricity Policy.
