A programme to recognise outstanding performers from the Western Province at the 2023/2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination was held recently at Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

A total of 361 students from the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts who demonstrated high performance at the district level were each awarded a cash incentive of Rs. 100,000 along with a certificate of recognition. The awards, distributed through the President’s Fund, amounted to a total disbursement of Rs. 36.1 million.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Amarasuriya said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to investing in human capital and ensuring that public assistance programmes are accessible to students across the country. She noted that the President’s Fund has been strengthened to directly support educational advancement and encourage academic excellence.

Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Professor Anil Jayantha Fernando and Senior Additional Secretary to the President and Secretary to the President’s Fund Roshan Gamage also addressed the event.

Members of Parliament, senior government officials, representatives of the education sector, parents and students were among those present at the ceremony.
