The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued further landslide red notices and warnings for several Divisional Secretariat Divisions across multiple districts, citing the continuing risk of slope failures.
According to NBRO, the landslide red notices issued for parts of the Kandy District will remain in effect from 4.00 p.m. today (15) until 4.00 p.m. tomorrow (16). The red notice applies to the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Ududumbara, Doluwa, Minipe, Medadumbara and Ganga Ihala Korala.
Meanwhile, second-level landslide warnings have been issued for a wide range of Divisional Secretariat Divisions in several districts. In the Badulla District, warnings cover Badulla, Haputale, Hali Ela, Kandaketiya, Passara, Meegahakivula, Uva Paranagama, Welimada, Lunugala, Ella, Bandarawela, Soranathota and Haldummulla.
In the Kandy District, second-level warnings have been issued for Gangawata Korala, Pathahewaheta, Akurana, Yatinuwara, Thumpane, Harispattu, Poojapitiya, Pasbage Korala, Hatharaliyadda, Kundasale, Udunuwara, Delthota, Pathadumbara, Panwila and Udapalatha.
Similar warnings are in effect for Mallawapitiya, Mawathagama and Sama Ridigeema in the Kurunegala District, as well as Naula, Ratthota, Ambanganga Korala, Ukuwela, Wilgamuwa, Yatawatta, Matale, Pallepola and Laggala Pallegama in the Matale District.
In the Nuwara Eliya District, second-level landslide warnings have been issued for Nuwara Eliya, Walapane, Haguranketha, Nildandahinna and Mathurata.
Meanwhile, NBRO has also issued Alert Level 1 (Be Alert) notices for several areas. In the Kegalle District, the alert applies to Deraniyagala, Ruwanwella, Dehiowita, Kegalle, Galigamuwa, Warakapola, Mawanella, Rambukkana, Aranayake, Bulathkohupitiya and Yatiyanthota. In the Kurunegala District, Polgahawela and Alawwa are included, while in the Nuwara Eliya District, Talawakele, Norwood, Ambangamuwa Korale, Kothmale West and Kothmale East are under Alert Level 1.
NBRO has urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, follow instructions issued by local authorities and disaster management officials, and take immediate precautions if warning signs such as cracks on the ground, tilting trees or unusual sounds are observed.
