President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Yang Wangmin, paid a courtesy call on Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, on 12 December 2025.

During the meeting, Minister Herath expressed deep appreciation to the Government and people of China for their steadfast support following the recent adverse weather conditions that affected the entire country. Yang Wangmin pledged RMB 500,000 to aid Sri Lanka’s rebuilding initiatives.

The Foreign Minister noted that the assistance reflects the longstanding and strong bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and China, emphasizing Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthen these relations in the future.

Yang Wangmin expressed confidence that, under President Anura Kumara Disanayake’s leadership, Sri Lanka would recover and rebuild stronger. He also highlighted CPAFFC’s intention to assist in urban planning and enhance people-to-people relations, including youth exchanges between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Aruni Ranaraja, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, and senior officials from the Ministry, CPAFFC, and the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.
