A container load of humanitarian aid donated by the Government of Pakistan for people affected by recent disasters in Sri Lanka has arrived at the island, officials said.

The shipment was brought to the Colombo port aboard a special vessel and was officially handed over to the Sri Lankan government today at the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) by the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Major General (R) Faheem ul Aziz.

Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka and Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku received the aid on behalf of the government. The handover ceremony was also attended by Deputy Speaker Mohammed Rizvi Salley, Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara representing the Navy, Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman Admiral S.S. Ranasinghe, and Managing Director Ganaka Hemachandra.

The aid will be distributed to support communities affected by the recent disasters across the island.
