A fuel spill in the sea area off Colombo was successfully contained following a sudden leak from a fuel buoy near the Colombo Port this morning (December 14, 2025).

Responding promptly to a notification from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the Sri Lanka Navy deployed three Fast Attack Vessels, while the Sri Lanka Coast Guard deployed its patrol vessel Samaraksha to manage the situation.

The joint operation, carried out with the assistance of the Marine Environment Protection Authority and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, enabled authorities to effectively control the fuel spill and prevent further environmental damage.
