Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya held high-level discussions with Julian Hill, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs and Assistant Minister for International Education, on December 11, 2025, at the Ministry of Education, Isurupaya.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the AUD 3.5 million humanitarian assistance provided by the Government of Australia following the recent adverse weather conditions that affected the country. She noted that Sri Lanka has successfully completed search and rescue operations and has now entered the next phase of recovery, focusing on resettlement, relocation and rebuilding efforts.

Discussions also covered broader bilateral relations, development cooperation, economic and trade ties, tourism, investment opportunities and regional collaboration. Both sides reaffirmed the strong partnership between Sri Lanka and Australia and underscored the importance of continued cooperation in supporting Sri Lanka’s recovery and development priorities.

The meeting was attended by Matthew Duckworth, Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, along with senior officials from both countries.
