Former Speaker of Parliament and National People’s Power (NPP) MP Ashoka Ranwala has been released on bail by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court, the Police said.
Ranwala was produced before court on Friday in connection with a road accident in the Sapugaskanda area, which occurred on Thursday evening (11) in Denimulla. The incident involved a head-on collision between a jeep driven by Ranwala and another motor vehicle.
A 25-year-old woman, her six-month-old infant, and a 55-year-old woman travelling in the car were injured and admitted to hospital. The infant was later transferred to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children for specialised treatment. Ranwala himself sustained injuries and also received medical treatment.
