The Government Veterinary Officers' Association will begin a three-day mobile clinic in Mannar tomorrow to treat farm animals affected by the recent floods brought on by Cyclone Dithwa.
Association President Dr. Upul Ranjith Kumara said that the initiative is intended to support farmers whose livestock have been severely impacted by the flooding.
The programme is being implemented with the assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation, the Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH), and the Government Veterinary Association.
According to Dr. Kumara, eight teams will be deployed across several villages in Mannar to locate affected farms, while residents will also be invited to bring their animals to the mobile clinics. Announcements will be made in the area to inform the public.
He added that 250 metric tonnes of cattle feed have already been sent to the district, as the floods have destroyed grazing lands and created a severe shortage of pasture.
“This stock of cattle feed will help farmers keep their animals nourished until the situation improves,” he said.
