A trainee police constable who allegedly threatened to kill the acting Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Okkampitiya Police Station has been remanded until December 17 on the orders of the Wellawaya Magistrate's court.

The suspect, identified as Trainee Police Constable Prabath Jayasekara (24), is accused of entering the acting OIC’s office while intoxicated and threatening him with violence.

According to police reports, the acting OIC, a Chief Inspector, had just returned from inspecting a roadblock on the Monaragala–Buttala road when the trainee constable stormed in, asking whether the officer had visited his wife. He then allegedly threatened to “cut his throat and place it on the table.”

When the acting OIC attempted to arrest him, the suspect fled from the room but was later arrested in front of the Monaragala Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau by a Sub-Inspector attached to the unit.

The Okkampitiya Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
