The United Nations today launched its Humanitarian Priority Response Plan to support recovery efforts for communities in Sri Lanka devastated by Cyclone Ditwah.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, UN Resident Coordinator Marc-André Franche said the plan, developed jointly with the Disaster Management Center, identifies priorities across seven sectors and will require approximately US$35 million over the next four months.
“The government will lead the relief and recovery operations, while the UN, together with local and international partners, will provide support across various areas,” Franche said.
He added that the UN has already secured US$9.5 million for the initiative, with contributions from Australia, Canada, the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. An additional US$26 million is being sought through a coordinated effort with stakeholders.
