Insurance companies in Sri Lanka have started compensating individuals and businesses affected by Cyclone Ditwah, the Ministry of Finance said.
Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, said the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka recently held a meeting with the heads of all insurance firms to establish a mechanism for fast-tracking payments.
He noted that insurers have already begun providing compensation for damaged businesses, property, and loss of life caused by the disaster. Payments for minor property damage have been issued, while assessments continue for larger claims.
Insurance company representatives said compensation for extensive damage will be paid once documentation and verification are completed, with partial payments released immediately wherever possible to support affected households and businesses.
