A 20-year-old youth has died following a sudden explosion at a fireworks manufacturing facility in Kimbulapitiya, Katana.
According to police, the explosion occurred yesterday (09) evening in an outdoor shed at the facility. The victim, a resident of Bandarawela who had been employed at the factory, sustained critical injuries in the blast.
He was rushed to the Negombo Hospital but succumbed to his injuries upon admission.
The body has been placed at the Negombo Hospital morgue. Katana Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the explosion and any possible negligence involved.
