In response to the widespread devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, the Government has announced that active-duty Army personnel will contribute to the national recovery effort through the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund.’
Cyclone Ditwah severely impacted many parts of the island — including the central hills — leaving thousands of civilians displaced and facing immense hardship. The fund has been established to support the resettlement of affected families and accelerate the country’s rebuilding process.
As part of this initiative, all serving Army officers and other ranks are expected to donate one day’s salary from their consolidated pay. Heads of institutions have been instructed to brief their personnel on the purpose of the contribution. Those who do not wish to participate must submit their names, along with endorsements from institutional heads, to the Ministry of Defence by December 10, 2025.
The Army confirmed that the salary deduction for this contribution will be collected from the December 2025 pay cycle. Officials described the initiative as a collective effort to support citizens struggling in the aftermath of the disaster.
