Sri Lanka received a significant boost to its disaster relief operations on Monday (8) when the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Gharial arrived at the Trincomalee Port carrying 650 tons of humanitarian assistance from the Government of India.
The consignment includes essential food items, clothing, and other critical supplies intended for communities severely affected by Cyclone Ditwah. The latest delivery underscores India’s continued solidarity and support for Sri Lanka during this period of urgent recovery.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra, who attended the official handover, expressed deep appreciation for India’s timely assistance. The Deputy Indian High Commissioner in Jaffna was also present at the event.
This shipment follows India’s earlier deployment of naval vessels LCU 54, LCU 51, and LCU 57, which arrived in Colombo on the morning of 07 December 2025. These Landing Craft Utility (LCU) ships delivered essential Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) supplies to support cyclone-affected areas across the island.
Together, these efforts highlight the strong cooperation between the two nations as Sri Lanka continues its recovery from the devastating cyclone.
