The Department of Irrigation announced that the sluice gate of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir has been opened following increased rainfall in the catchment areas.
Engineers overseeing the reservoir stated that the gate was released to maintain the water level at its normal operating range and ensure safe management of the reservoir.
According to rainfall forecasts issued for the coming days, the Department of Irrigation further reports that water levels in several major reservoirs across the country are being gradually lowered as a precautionary measure.
