The Department of Motor Traffic has reported that motorcycles account for the highest number of vehicle registrations so far this year.

Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe, said that 223,423 motorcycles have been registered with the department. In addition, 55,338 cars, 13,850 three-wheelers, and 35,268 electric vehicles across all categories have also been registered.

Amarasinghe noted that the revenue target for the year has been exceeded, with the department surpassing the allocated 16 billion rupees and recording 17.8 billion rupees in revenue as of November 30.

Looking ahead, he stated that the Treasury has set a revenue target of 18 billion rupees for the coming year, which the Department of Motor Traffic is confident of achieving.
