The consultancy contract for renovating the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) Theatre was officially awarded today (08) to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB).
The NYSC Theatre was closed on September 5, 2024, after glass fragments were found falling from its roof, and rainwater leakage was reported during rainy periods. The deteriorating condition of the building forced its shutdown, resulting in significant annual financial losses for the Council.
Authorities say the roof must be repaired urgently to ensure the theatre can be reopened for public use without further delay.
NYSC Chairman and Director General, Attorney-at-Law Supun Wijeratne, stated that once consultancy services are completed, roof repairs will begin immediately, with plans to reopen the theatre to the public soon afterward.
The contract agreement was signed between NYSC Chairman/Director General Attorney-at-Law Supun Wijeratne and A.P. Jayatissa.
