Two young men have drowned while bathing in the Pannai lagoon area in Jaffna, police said. The incident occurred when four youths had entered the lagoon, resulting in a tragic accident where two of them lost their lives.
According to police, the deceased victims were 18 and 20 years old. Local residents, together with police officers, managed to rescue all four individuals and rush them to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. However, hospital authorities confirmed that two of the youths had already died on admission.
The other two survivors are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Jaffna Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
