The Police has issued a safety advisory to pilgrims visiting Sri Pada, urging caution due to instability along the Hatton access route.
According to a statement, a team of experts from the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) inspected the Mahagiridamba area, where a recent landslide has caused significant ground instability on the Hatton–Sri Pada access road. Following their assessment, the NBRO Director General has issued recommendations outlining the necessary measures to restore the route.
Police stated that, until these recommendations are fully implemented, access to the Sri Pada site via the Hatton entrance through the affected zone will be restricted for public safety. They emphasized that entering the shrine through this route currently poses risks due to the unstable conditions.
Authorities have therefore planned to limit the use of the Hatton route during the ongoing situation and advised devotees to exercise extreme caution when planning travel, especially considering prevailing weather conditions.
The annual Sri Pada pilgrimage season began on 4 December, coinciding with the Uduwap Purana Pasaloswaka Poya Day.
