A Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) line technician died on Wednesday while carrying out power restoration duties in the Kurunegala area, officials said.
The victim, 41-year-old Anuruddha Kumara, had been attending to a damaged low-voltage line along the Bowatta–Weerapokuna route when the incident occurred around 12.45 p.m. He is believed to have suffered a severe electric shock while working on the line.
He was first admitted to the Weerapokuna Base Hospital and later transferred to the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital, where he died roughly an hour after admission despite efforts by medical teams.
Kumara began his career in 2007 as a temporary linesman in Dambulla and became a permanent employee in 2017. He later served at the Ukuwela substation and was attached to the Hettipola Power Station at the time of his death. The CEB said he was known for his dedication and professionalism.
