The Colombo–Kandy main road, which was temporarily reopened earlier, has been re-restricted to vehicular traffic from Kadugannawa as of this morning (04).

Police said the restriction was reimposed in the Ganethenna area of Lower Kadugannawa, where a mound of earth and rocks recently collapsed onto a shop and a house, raising renewed safety concerns.

The Road Development Authority (RDA) is currently conducting an inspection at the site, and as a result, only vehicles belonging to essential services and disaster-relief operations are permitted to pass through the affected stretch.

Kadugannawa Police said roadblocks have been placed from Kadugannawa town and from Ganethenna town to close off the relevant section of the road. Further updates will be issued following the RDA’s assessment.
