The Ministry of Health and Mass Media has urged residents impacted by recent floods to obtain immediate treatment to prevent leptospirosis. Those affected are advised to contact their local Medical Officer of Health or Public Health Inspector to receive a full course of free medication.
Health authorities, including Public Health Inspectors, are distributing Doxycycline, a preventive treatment for leptospirosis, to individuals at risk. The Epidemiology Division stressed that treatment will be provided promptly, based on the level of exposure to flood conditions.
“Seeking this treatment is crucial to protect against leptospirosis, which can follow flood disasters,” the Epidemiology Division said.
