In a statement, Police said the decision was made in response to the widespread difficulties motorists are facing in renewing their licences on time due to the severe adverse weather, floods, and landslides impacting travel and access to services across the country.
Many drivers have been unable to visit licensing offices, resulting in unavoidable delays.
To ease the burden, the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has introduced a special concessionary period allowing motorists with expired licences to continue driving without being considered in violation of traffic laws.
The grace period, issued through an official circular, will remain in force until 25 December 2025.
