The Australian Government has announced it will provide AUD 1 million in humanitarian assistance to support Sri Lanka’s response to Cyclone Ditwah, the Australian High Commission confirmed on 30 November 2025.
The funding will help deliver essential services to communities affected by flooding, landslides, and damage to homes and infrastructure across the country. Australia will work alongside humanitarian partners, the United Nations, and local NGOs to provide rapid, on-the-ground assistance to those in urgent need.
In addition to the AUD 1 million contribution, Australia is coordinating with local civil society partners to redirect existing funds to address immediate needs in affected areas, with a focus on vulnerable groups such as women, girls, and people with disabilities.
The aid package also includes activation of regional response funds, including the Regional Prepositioning Initiative managed by UNFPA and Australia, which will support sexual and reproductive health and protection needs for women and girls impacted by the cyclone.
Authorities estimate that around 1 million Sri Lankans have been affected by Cyclone Ditwah, with numbers expected to rise as assessments continue.
High Commissioner Matthew Duckworth said, “Australia stands with Sri Lanka at this devastating time. We will work closely with government, humanitarian actors, and civil society to meet the urgent needs of communities across the country. Our thoughts are with the people of Sri Lanka, in particular those affected by the ongoing crisis.”
