Officials confirmed that the rescue operation launched after the Mavil Aru reservoir embankment breach was conducted under the direct supervision of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Military personnel and disaster response teams initiated rapid aerial operations to reach communities cut off by floodwaters and unstable terrain. So far, 121 individuals have been rescued through helicopter missions deployed immediately after the breach.
Authorities said efforts remain ongoing, with both air and ground teams working together to locate and assist anyone still trapped as weather conditions allow.
