The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reports that the water level of the Kelani River continues to rise, resulting in an overflow at the Ambatale flood control barrier.
According to an official statement issued by the Land Development Corporation, the overflow has been confirmed and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
Residents living in low-lying areas between the Ambatale flood control barrier and the Malambe–Kaduwela main road, as well as those residing in upstream low-level zones, are being urgently advised to stay alert and take necessary safety precautions. Emergency notifications are currently being issued to affected communities.
Authorities urge the public to follow evacuation instructions promptly to ensure their safety as conditions may worsen rapidly.
