The Road Development Authority (RDA) has urged motorists to avoid traveling to Kandy despite the reopening of key access routes.
RDA Director General K. Wimal Kandambi said that while the roads to Kandy via the expressway to Kurunegala and through Galagedara and Katugastota have been cleared after recent blockages caused by earth mounds and rockfalls, heavy traffic could disrupt ongoing repair work.
“Even though the roads are open, we request the public not to use them unless necessary, as it could create traffic congestion and complicate repair operations,” he said.
Eng. Kandambi also highlighted that out of 12,000 roads managed by the RDA across the country, 206 remain completely closed due to floods, landslides, and rockfalls caused by the current severe weather conditions.
