Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa says all residential students in universities, colleges, and other higher education institutions located in disaster-hit areas are safe.
Speaking at a media briefing, he said the Ministry is continuously monitoring and effectively managing the impact of the natural disaster on the education, higher education, and vocational training sectors.
Kaluwewa further stated that the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination will not be held as previously planned due to the prevailing disaster situation. He also confirmed that the reopening of schools has been postponed to December 16.
Providing updates from the field, he noted that teachers and students residing at the Pulathisipura and Mahaweli Colleges of Education, as well as students in the universities of Nagenahira, Agnidigha, Uva Wellassa, and Peradeniya, are safe. He assured that food and beverages are being provided without interruption and urged parents not to be overly worried.
He also highlighted that communication challenges continue in some areas due to extended power outages.
