The University of Peradeniya has been closed until further notice as the island continues to experience severe weather conditions. University administration has confirmed that students residing in hostels are safe and being closely monitored.
Meanwhile, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya (Malwatta section) have been submerged due to the overflowing of the Mahaweli River following heavy rainfall. Several low-lying areas surrounding the gardens have also been inundated, according to reports.
Authorities have urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions issued by disaster management officials.
