A significant amount of rainfall has been recorded in the upper catchment areas of the Kalu Ganga basin as of 1:00 a.m. today, with continued heavy rain being reported.
According to the Department of Irrigation, analysis of water levels at river gauges maintained within the Kalu Ganga basin indicates a potential for minor flood conditions over the next 48 hours. The warning applies to low-lying areas in the following Divisional Secretariat divisions:
Ratnapura District: Pelmadulla, Nivithigala, Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Ayagama, Elapatha
Kalutara District: Ingiriya, Horana, Dodangoda, Millaniya
Residents living in these vulnerable low-lying areas, as well as motorists traveling through these regions, are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and stay alert to rising water levels and emergency announcements.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and follow all safety instructions issued by disaster management officials.
