Train services across the country will come to a complete halt after 6 a.m. today (28) as the Railway Department moves to prevent potential accidents caused by the worsening weather conditions.
Additional General Manager (Operations) Chandrasena Bandara stated that continuous heavy rainfall has created unsafe conditions on several rail tracks, prompting the immediate suspension. He added that technical teams are currently assessing vulnerable areas to determine when services can safely resume.
Passengers are requested to stay informed of updates and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
